Ancient Art Appreciation introduces students to the foundations of artistic expression through the study and imitation of great works from the ancient world.

Students closely observe master artworks, learn core principles of art theory, and practice recreating techniques and styles to deepen their understanding of visual language.

This unit study includes the study of Cave Art, Tomb Wall Painting, the Minoan Griffin, the Terracotta Soldier, Nok portraiture, and Ashurbanipal with Bow, representing artistic traditions from England, Egypt, Crete, China, Africa, and Nineveh.

Through guided observation and thoughtful imitation, students gain a lasting appreciation for the beauty, meaning, and cultural significance of ancient art.

This process nurtures creativity, confidence, problem-solving, perseverance, focus, and nonverbal communication, allowing students to express ideas beyond words.
