The Early Modern Art Projects immerse students in the craftsmanship and artistic developments of the Early Modern period through hands-on projects inspired by master artisans and cultural traditions.
Projects include fresco painting, Phulkari embroidery, basket weaving, stained glass ship construction, Shakespeare paper puppets, and Dymkovo clay toys. Together, these works reflect the artistry of Renaissance Italy, as well as traditions from India, Africa, England, and Russia.
Each project is supported by clear, step-by-step instructions, materials lists, templates, and picture study, guiding students as they explore new techniques and materials.
As students create, they cultivate patience, dexterity, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while deepening their appreciation for the historical context and artistic mastery that shaped the Early Modern world.
